This is Chad Harrison, and you're listening to Hope Applying God's word to your daily life.
Hi, this is Chad Harrison, and I am the teaching pastor of Lake Community Church and have been serving as a pastor for 25 years.
I'm also a practicing attorney. This podcast is designed to help you study God's word and find God's will for your life.
I pray in the name of Jesus right now that God would open up his word to you and allow you to see him and to know him and to know his will, that you might glorify him and that you might walk in faith and power each and every day,
especially today in Jesus name.
All right, it says the four living creatures have six wings.
I already told you what six represents. Right?
This man's the day God made man. He formed man.
Notice he didn't. He didn't create any matter.
He formed him out of the dust of the ground.
He breathed into him the spirit or pneuma or breath of life, the rua of life,
and he became a living creature or a living soul.
So man is made of matter and made of what spirit? And has a will or a soul that goes along with both of those.
So man is a picture of that. It says here that the living creatures, each having six wings,
were full of eyes around and within.
Now you go, pastor, what does that mean?
Well,
in my opinion. Now, I'm going to tell you, this is definitely not a hill to die on.
It already says that they had eyes all around them, which means they knew a whole lot of stuff. Okay? They'd seen a lot of things,
all right? They had a great understanding of how things have been going and how God has been moving.
But they also have eyes within,
which means they're sentient beings.
They realize that they have a position in the creation.
Does that make sense?
All right,
so when you hear somebody say, we're the only sentient beings in the universe.
Yeah, in the flesh,
you're right. But not in the spirit.
Angels have souls, okay? And you need to understand that they're a being that has a soul,
okay? They understand who they are, and they understand their position in the universe.
Makes sense to you?
All right? It says here that. That they. That they have a soul. It says the four living creatures each day having six wings were full of eyes around them,
and they do not rest day or night.
And they got a little praise song going. Okay? All right. And when I say a little one, it's going to be a short one this time. Y' all with me.
They Got a praise song. They say,
holy, holy, holy.
How many of y' all like that?
Holy, holy, holy. That's not your song. Okay? But you can sing it. It's okay. It's not your song. It's the angel's song. Okay? In fact, in heaven, the people that are saying, holy, holy, holy all the time, they're angels.
Y' all with me? All right.
They are.
Every time. They're angels. It's okay to sing it. Just letting you know you're. You're kind of stepping on their song. Okay? They're saying, holy, holy, holy, which means God's. God's sovereign.
He's great. He's wonderful. Notice what else they say?
Lord God Almighty,
which means he's worthy of praise. He's. He's in control of things. He's sovereign over the universe. I use that word so much, but, you know, it's the great first place to be.
Did y' all hear that?
It really is the.
I can't help but tell you it's the. It's the. It's the foundation of faith.
Okay, you go. Well, my feet feel like they're in sinking sand about this issue. I feel like everything's falling. Okay, okay, okay, okay. Go back to the start.
Start back whenever you got a problem. How many y' all been in a problem? Like, I feel like I'm drowning. Okay. You've been in that situation. Okay, go back, go back, go back, go back.
What'd I go back to?
God's in control.
Boom.
All right. That's a good place to start,
right?
You begin to feel like you're not falling anymore. You begin to feel like you. You know,
maybe you can make it to the surface again. Right? You feel like maybe. Maybe I won't sink under the sand.
Why? Because that's a great place to start.
God's holy and he's Lord God Almighty. He's over all things. He's mightier than anything.
And, you know, that's really important if we're going to talk about throne room of heaven and the angels and the 24 elders, and we got all these peals of thunder and mighty waters, and all this stuff's happening.
And the angels are all there saying today, hey, I know this looks wonderful. I mean, it really is cool. Okay? And those four angels are. And we're cool, too. Okay?
And they are. All right? And then they say, but hold on now.
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. And what does it say after that? Well, it says.
It says who was and is and is to come.
Okay.
Which means he is,
he's everlasting and he's eternal.
Now, for them,
it's important that you place the emphasis on being everlasting.
Okay. And you go, well, why do you place the emphasis on being everlasting?
Well, because for the angels, they do have a beginning,
which means time is the start for them.
But for humanity, we do not, like our Father, have a beginning or an end because he gives us eternal life, which is life of God, which is outside of time.
Jesus says, those whom my Father give me, I give them eternal life.
The angels have everlasting life,
but they don't have eternal life.
And you go, well, I don't know how to think about that. Well, let's just think about it this way. Everlasting means it has a start and it goes,
well,
everlasting.
Right.
Well, do the angels have a start?
Yeah.
When God said spoke the universe into existence in Genesis 1.
Okay,
but before that,
what was there?
The God who was and is and ever shall be.
It's the same title he gave himself on top of that mountain to Moses. When Moses said, who shall I tell? Em sent Me.
He says, tell them I am sent. You. I am. That I am. And you go, well, that's not I was. Yeah, it is, it is,
it is.
It is in the Hebrew,
the word for existing without a tense.
Okay. It means I exist.
I've always been, I ever shall be.
I am now.
Well, the angels are looking at God and they're saying he's holy. And they're saying he's mighty and he's sovereign. And then they're saying he's more than we are, he's eternal.
Make sense.
He exists beyond time and space.
Now I want you to notice something about that because it's important.
They always speak to God. And you try me on this, you can look it up.
You'll never ever see an angel speak to God in the first person because they don't know Him.
They know a lot about Him. They got eyes all over him,
but they don't know Him.
He's unapproachable light to them.
They, they. They don't really totally understand everything.
And there's aspect of him that they can understand which makes it possible that they can't know him fully. And that is his grace and mercy. They do not know his grace and mercy.
They don't.
They know him to be holy, they know him to be sovereign. They know him to be eternal, but they don't know him to be full of grace and mercy.
Man is who shows the grace and mercy of God.
All right,
when they speak to God, they speak to him in the third person.
When they say. If you'll notice, it says. They say here, okay, we make them into songs because that's what we do.
But angels say. And when they say. And they speak to God, they always speak to him in the third person. They don't speak him to him in the first person, like.
Like we do each other.
Makes sense.
All right, let's go to the other. Other creatures. When they say that, it says, whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,
the 24 elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him.
Who, the four living who lives forever and ever and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
and we'll get to that.
So what do they do when they. When the angels say,
glory, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was and is and ever shall be. What do they do?
They worship God. By doing what?
Falling on their face.
Now, I've done a little bit deeper study, and I used to believe there are only four words for worship in the Hebrew language, but there's actually seven or eight.
Okay,
Let me tell you, if I can just off the top of my head, what they mean.
One of them means to fall down on your face,
to prostrate yourself,
to fall on your knees.
Make sense?
One of them means to clap.
One of them means to lift up your hands. Y' all know that one, right? You ever heard seen a Jewish lady say yada, yada, yada, and she always throws her hands up in the air.
You know, yada, yada, yada.
You've seen it, right? They always put their hands up in the air.
Means to thrust your hands in the air. Okay? One of them means to shout.
Alleluia is in the context of shouting. Did y' all know that?
One of them means to speak or to sing.
One of them means to stand.
Are y' all getting a idea of this?
All the words for worship in the Bible have some kind of action involved in them.
You go, what about the New Testament? Well, there's only one word for worship in the New Testament. That is proskanu, which means to fall on your face.
Okay,
so you've got Old Testament words. All of them mean to shout, to sing, to thrust your hands in the air, to clap,
to dance,
and the other ones in the New Testament, to fall on your face.
So worship is not our Western idea of sitting and Being reverent toward God.
Pastor, aren't we supposed to be reverent of God? Well, you can, but I'm not.
Okay,
you go. Well, what do you mean? Well, the word reverend is a Latin word which means awful and terrible. And it's.
It's correlated with the verse that says how terrible or awful it is or how reverent it is to fall in the hands of an angry God.
Hebrews 10.
Are you falling in the hands of an angry God?
No, you're not. Because your anger, the anger of God toward your sin has been what?
It's been quenched.
It's been redeemed.
You're not in the hands of an angry God.
So I want you to hear me today.
When you call a pastor reverend, you're not doing him any favors,
okay?
You're either speaking to the quality of his ministry, awful and terrible,
or you're speaking to his ministry being a ministry of condemnation and death.
Okay?
Y' all know that. How many of y' all know that?
The other thing about it is that we as God's people are not reverent. We're joyful,
we're spirit filled,
we're full of life.
And we worship God in the spirit using our physical bodies, just like those angels up there do,
okay?
And so when they fall on their face,
they fall on their face worshiping God,
which is an activity, if y' all will notice. I don't let you sit much. Have y' all noticed that? Or if you do sit, it's your own problem.
You with me? I give you a chance to come to the altar not once,
but twice.
We stand and sing.
We clap and sing.
Some folks even shout and sing. You know, they just a little bit on the Pentecostal edge. Some of our folks are. You know what I'm talking about. All right?
There's nothing wrong with that. You can do it. By the way, if you were to say hallelujah, if you were to say it this way, hallelujah, brother, that would be wrong, okay?
Because it's not hallelujah. What is it?
Hallelujah.
It's hallelujah. It's to be shouted. Why Praise the Lord is not oh, praise the Lord.
It is not that, okay? It's not.
It's to be shouted.
So if I'm going to. If I'm going to worship him, I probably need to be physically active while I'm doing it. Make sense?
It's not a participatory.
It is a participatory activity,
okay? Worship is a participatory. Activity. If y' all notice, I don't even let you sit and us bring you the bread and the cup.
You gotta get up and go get it.
Let me tell you something. If you. If you're going to have anything from God, you got to get up and go get it,
okay? He gonna bring it to you, but he ain't gonna serve it to you. He's gonna let you get up and come get it. Cause remember, faith causes you to do what?
It causes you to move. Notice they not only do they throw,
not only do they fall down on their face, but they cast their crowns. And remember, those crowns are not diadem,
which is a picture of royalty. They are crowned.
Victory crowns victory. How we've overcome death and sin by our what faith.
This is our victory. Our victory is by faith,
okay? And so when you cast your crowns before the throne of God, they're crowns of victory that have been won by faith.
You gotta get that. You gotta understand that. And so when I come to worship, you mean I'm to participate.
Participate in worship? Yeah. And I am to bring my trophies of faith to God.
That's why I talk a whole lot about faith,
because I want you to have trophies of them. I want you to have investment in spiritual things. I want you to store up for yourselves treasure in heaven.
Right?
Use your will and your activity to. To build spiritual things.
You go, I don't know what you're talking about.
We did it Saturday. It's three hours.
I don't know it's boring or not, but nobody went to sleep. Okay? All right.
Watch it.
So they cast their crowns before the throne as you go today. I pray that the Lord will bless.
You and keep you, that he'll make his face to shine upon you, and that he will give you hope and peace today in Jesus name.
