This is Chad Harrison and you're listening to Hope Applying God's word to your daily life.

Hi, this is Chad Harrison and I am the teaching pastor of Lake Community Church and have been serving as a pastor for 25 years.

I'm also a practicing attorney.

This podcast is designed to help you.

Study God's word and find God's will for your life. I pray in the name of Jesus right now that God would open up.

His word to you and allow you.

To see him and to know him and to know his will, that you might glorify him and that you might walk in faith and power each and every day, especially today in Jesus name.

We're in Revelation chapter 8. Now I want to give you some,

some ideas, some things out there that you can think about. Now remember,

if scripture is dogmatic or scripture is very, very just straightforward about something, then obviously we need to be straightforward about it. But sometimes in scripture, especially when we're talking about the book of the Revelation,

it's not necessarily straightforward in the sense of we can't treat all the things that we run into in the revelation as a hill to die on in the sense that it can mean several things.

And you can see that.

And one of the things that Christians love to argue about, in fact churches like to break up over and all kinds of things like that is in the book of the Revelation, whether you're raptured at the beginning of the tribulation in the middle of the tribulation or, or whether there's not a rapture at all at the end.

And trust me when I say that is something that you will hear. People get just mad and angry as all get out about whether or not their point of view is right.

Now I'm going to say this to you.

The Bible is not,

it's not solid on that subject. Now I believe in the Rapture that happened. I believe the rapture happens at the beginning of chapter four in the book of the Revelation.

I believe in a pre tribulation rapture.

But that doesn't mean that those who believe in a,

ah, tribulation or a rapture that takes place in the middle of the tribulation, meaning in the middle of the seven year reign, the three and a half year reign. That doesn't mean that they're heretics and that they're going to hell for it.

Okay?

In fact this chapter is the beginning of the middle portion of the tribulation. Now the greater portion of what happens during that actually does plate take place after the seventh seal is Opened.

And we begin with the horns and then we. The bowls, and then we go through like. Well, I mean,

there's another 14 chapters left. So we've only gone through basically a third of the book of the Revelation,

and two thirds of it deals with the last three and a half years. The first part of it deals with the church age. And then the first three and a half years are dealt with in chapter four, five, six and seven.

So when you get to chapter eight,

you have what is known as the Great Tribulation or the last three and a half years of, of the time period where God pours out his wrath on the earth.

Now when we're reading that, that's an important understanding to have. So what you're thinking in your brain when you start chapter eight is he's opening the seventh seal and we're beginning the worst part of the tribulation.

We're beginning the terrible times.

Now,

like I said, those who believe in a mid tribulation rapture,

they believe that this is the time when that happens.

Okay.

I'll say this.

There are some things in here that would give you reason to believe that,

okay?

And one of the things that you get for sure in this chapter, although it's kind of alluded to in the three chapters before this, is an absence of the work of the Holy Spirit,

okay? It's an absence of the work of the Holy Spirit.

So when you're, when you're reading this,

you realize that there is a thread going through it that says that the Holy Spirit is not operating in the earth like he was during our time period. And our time period is the church age.

Okay?

Now if you'll notice, we as a church,

in our teaching and in our preaching,

we make sure that we deal with all three persons of the Godhead or all three aspects of the Godhead. The personhood of the Father, the personhood of the Son, and the personhood of the Holy Spirit.

And we explain that by the way, God gave us something to explain that to us, to show us, and that is who?

Us?

Okay?

How can God be three persons and the same being,

right?

Well,

we are made in the image of God. And there are three parts to you.

There's your body, your flesh,

there's your soul,

your heart and your mind, your passions, your intellect. And then there's the spiritual aspect of you. Or there is a new human spirit when you're born again.

So just like you have three parts that both have separate wheels, right?

They all have separate wills that operate. Your spirit is perfect. And it seeks God's will perfectly. Your flesh never seeks after God at all. And the one in the middle is the part of you that God says he loves.

Because he says in the Old Testament, three times your soul hath I loved.

Okay, what does that mean?

Well,

that means he loves your heart and your mind. He loves the part of you that is your will. He loves that.

That is the uniqueness of who you are.

Okay?

And so God desires that.

Now,

understanding that, it's important to know the works of the Father, the works of the Son, and the works of the Holy Spirit. And by the way, the Son points to those things when he's here, Jesus points to the work of the Holy Spirit.

He gives them warnings about how to deal with the Holy Spirit. When he's asked how to pray, he teaches them how to pray to the Father. He talks about the Father,

he mentions the Father and tells us about seeking after the Father's will.

So even in the New Testament, even when we're dealing with Jesus himself in the flesh,

he is giving us the Father,

the Holy Spirit himself.

So you can begin to see that. So when you get to the Book,

when you get to chapter eight in the book of the Revelation,

you realize that the work of the Holy Spirit,

which is many fold,

doesn't seem to be there.

The work of the Holy Spirit reveals Christ.

The work of the Holy Spirit sustains that which was created.

Okay?

The work of the Holy Spirit washes and purifies us for God's holiness,

okay? The work of the Holy Spirit also does something that's really important,

especially in the church age. The work of the Holy Spirit holds back the works of darkness.

In fact, one of the names of the Holy Spirit in Scripture is he that holdeth back or he that let it.

Okay?

And that means that the Holy Spirit holds back the work of darkness. Otherwise the earth would be full of darkness.

Otherwise the earth would be full of God's wrath and there would be nothing good come out of it. There would be nothing redeemed out of it. And so the Holy Spirit is at work.

When the Holy Spirit is pulled out,

then obviously the earth is full of darkness and therefore full of God's wrath.

And it's difficult to have redemption. And we saw the redemption that happens with 144,000 and then preaching all over the world and a multitude so large that no one could count them comes out of that.

But when these seals begin to be opened, God's wrath is poured out and there's no time for redemption.

There's no work of redemption that goes on. And so when we open these seals, you. You're gonna see some parallels. And I'm trying to nail down all the stuff because there's so many streams that run through chapter eight,

I can't really nail them all down.

But what I find interesting about chapter eight is the parallels between the sounding of these horns and the plagues on Egypt.

Now,

the plagues on Egypt or how many. Do y' all remember how many there were?

There were 10 plagues on Egypt, all right?

The first five plagues were a result of Pharaoh hardening his heart toward God.

Okay?

Five's the number of grace.

Pharaoh was given five opportunities to.

To have a tender heart toward God's divine revelation.

God sent a word through Moses, his prophet, to speak to Pharaoh and tell him that God says, let his people go.

Okay?

Pharaoh the first five times has a heart that is able to hear God,

okay?

The Bible says it's clear when you get to it, when you get to the sixth time Moses goes into Pharaoh,

what happens changes.

It goes from Pharaoh hardening his heart to God hardening Pharaoh's heart.

Okay?

All right?

And understanding that is important because God gives grace.

But then once grace is given and grace is not received and grace does not have its way by the Holy Spirit,

then wrath is all that's left,

okay?

And wrath is all that's left.

When we get to chapter eight,

okay, there's no go. More grace for his creation. There's no more grace for the earth. There's no more grace for civilization,

okay?

And so.

And I say there's no more.

God still always finds a place for grace.

But. But the. The course of history moves from God's goodness and his grace and him holding back darkness to God allowing darkness so that he might be wrathful toward it,

okay? So that he might prove himself right to be wrathful toward the earth and toward sin, really. And that's what he's doing.

So when we get to these horns, that's what's going on. And I'm going to give you the physical aspect of how this manifests itself in the world, because it gives us that.

And then I'm going to give you a few spiritual insights, all right? Now, these spiritual insights, again,

are not hills to die on,

okay?

All right. And why do I say that? Well, because there's some clear symbolism in here that we can. We can identify in other parts of scripture.

There's not heels to die on for a reason.

Okay?

What I mean by that? Well. Well, if you go out there and say that this definitely is going to happen at this time.

I'm not telling you that. Cause I'm not sure about that,

all right? And I'm going to tell you this.

I'm about 95% sure the rapture's going to happen at the end of chapter three, in the beginning of chapter four.

But if it don't happen, then I got the 5% to fall back on, okay?

I'm 5% that it's definitely going to happen by chapter eight. I don't believe it happens at the end,

okay?

I have no part of me that believes that it happens at the end, but this could be the time when it happens. So I'm telling you that verse seven says.

Well, let's go to verse six. So the seventh, seven angels who had seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.

Now remember, every time you get to the trumpets, okay? And I believe these are the brass trumpets,

but it's chapter eight, verse six.

Chapter eight, verse six. I believe these are the brass trumpets, okay?

Now, if you told me they are shofars, do y' all know what shofars are? They're rams, horns. You know, they're the horns that do like that, and they blow in it.

And you know what I'm talking about.

You know,

if you're watching a war movie from back in the day, it's one of the cool parts, right? They blow the horns. If you're watching.

Yeah, if you're watching.

What's the name of that movie?

Ten Commandments. They. Well, great. I'm glad you came up with that. I was.

I was going to mention something else by Tolkien, but.

Yeah.

Why did they blow the horn? Do y' all remember?

Because he tells them to blow it. And he tells them how to react to the blowing of the horn. Why did they blow the horn? Do y' all know?

For movement.

For movement. Okay, so these trumpets are announcing a movement of God,

Okay? They're announcing a movement of God. And the movement of God can be good or it cannot be good.

Now, it's all good to him, but it ain't good for those who are having to deal with it.

Okay?

So it says here. So the seven angels.

So this is a complete movement of God. What he's telling you is the result of these seven horns is going in the end, is going to bring about the fullness of God's wrath.

Okay?

The seven horns in Exodus announce the beginning of the redemption of the work of. Redemption of the work of salvation.

Here it announces the. The.

The beginning of God's wrath. Now, why do I think they're brass?

Well, the shofars are from the ram's horn, and that would be a part of sacrifice.

Brass is always symbolic of judgment.

Okay.

When Jesus is seen in. In chapter four and chapter five, his feet are always burnished brass, right?

Okay.

Burnished bronze brass.

That metal that.

Those metals that melted together make it look kind of shiny. It's almost gold, but not really gold.

It's always a picture of judgment.

Okay. And so you have the judgment of these angels, a complete judgment as you go. Today, I pray that the Lord will.

Bless you and keep you, that he'll make his face to shine upon you, and that he will give you hope and peace today in Jesus name.
