This is Chad Harrison, and you're listening to Hope Applying God's word to your daily life. Hi, this is Chad Harrison and I am the teaching pastor of Lake Community Church and have been serving as a pastor for 25 years. I'm also a practicing attorney. This podcast is designed to help you study God's word and find God's will for your life. I pray in the name of Jesus right now that God would open up.

His word to you and allow you.

To see him and to know him and to know his will, that you might glorify him and that you might walk in faith and power each and every day, especially today, in Jesus name.

He said, I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters. Now, I'm going to tell you, I've told y' all before, it probably was a while back, but I've told you before what I believe. The voice of many waters is. Okay, first of all, water in the. In. In. In its just purest form is a picture of the Holy Spirit, okay? But waters or seas is usually a picture of the nations. Okay? So if you got many waters, you're not talking about many holy spirits, you're talking about there's only one Holy Spirit. I believe that when God speaks that everyone hears it in their own tongue. I believe that that is the voice of God, the voice of many waters. Okay? Now, if I were on Star Trek, I'm trying to figure out how I would make that happen. You know, you'd have this thing spit, you know, line and would hear it in their own languages. Maybe it's a universal translator. I don't know. All right, Star wars, they wouldn't have it because, you know, the, the, the. They, they, they. The. The. The Empire would try to knock that out so that you wouldn't have it. Are y' all with me at all on this? Okay, I'm sure you. All right, so, so. But the voice of many waters, I sincerely believe, is the voice of God speaking. So notice. Where is he hearing this voice spoken? In heaven. It's very specific about that. I hear the voice spoken in heaven. I see the people up there. I see the people with Jesus, and they're in Jerusalem or they're on Mount Zion. All right, so all of a sudden you're beginning to get the idea that the voice of God is not being heard where? On the Earth. It's not being heard on the Earth. And it says, and loud thunder, by the way, thunder is always what? The judgment of God. Okay? It's the judgment of God, it's understanding, his holiness. It's a picture of his judgment. So when God speaks, if I have the voice of many waters, it's the voice that is for people to understand and hear him. If I hear thunder in his voice, then it's the voice of judgment also. So you've got a dichotomy. You got God speaking here, and then you have. You have. You have judgment over there, okay? He says here, and I heard the sound of the harpist playing their harps. And those are the angels, right? Now, is there any harpist, Is there any angel playing a harp in the Bible? No. Who plays harps and instruments and sing songs in the Bible, man? Human beings do. Believers do. All right, now listen to me, Pastor. Are you saying that the beautiful lady with hair down her back with the white robe playing the giant harp is not an angel? Are you saying that's not an angel in the Bible? And I'm going to tell you definitively, yes, that's not an angel in the Bible. Okay? That is not, by the way, no angel in the Bible. I'm not saying that they aren't. I'm just saying that they ain't is, okay? So that's. I'm not saying they aren't, but I'm just saying they ain't is. There's no female angels mentioned in the Bible, all right? And the only female angel mentioned in the Bible is a demon or one that looks like a demon. Okay? All right? And that's not even an angel. Okay? And by the way, none of them have two wings. None of them have two wings. Some of them have no wings and some of them have six wings, but none of them have two wings. Just letting you know, there is one that has two wings. She's carrying a basket, and it's not good. Okay? It's a basket of the wrath. It's not good. Okay? All right. So I'm just letting you know if it's harps being played, it's man. In fact, David goes through all the time playing on the five string liar. The ten string liar, Whatever. What is that? Well, that's their form of guitar. Okay? All right? And it's not, you know, it's not. It's not the giant harp that you got to carry around. It's the one you kind of hold up against your chest and pluck, okay? Which kind of reminds you of banjos rather than harps. And I'm going to tell you that they sound a whole lot more like a dulcimer or rather Than the, you know, the hearts like that, those. That's not in the Bible. Okay. And, and, and, and, and why am I telling you that? Well, Because oftentimes some of the things we, we, we've taken as being biblical, truth is, is not okay. It's just not. It's just not. By the way, who is, who is, who is the most famous musician in the Old Testament? David. And he played on a harp, which would have been very much like our modern strength instruments that we use for our own music. Okay. Not played like this, but played like this. Okay. You know, ukulele style. Yeah. It's hard to dance to that. Right, right. But I mean, you can pick up the fiddle and pick up the bow, throw off your shoes and throw them in the floor. Right. All right, Right. That's in Louisiana. You can do that. Okay. Just letting you know, I, y'. All. Anybody know the difference between a violin and a fiddle? Yeah, it's no difference. It's how it's played. They're the same instrument. Did y' all know that? And they're big difference in how it sounds when they play it differently. I mean, when you take down the fiddle and take down the bow, it sounds a whole lot different than they do in New York in, you know, in the, in the orchestra. Same instrument. By the way, I've seen some great, some great violin players who in the middle of playing the violin, turned it into a fiddle, which is really cool when they do that. All right, all right. So they, and by the way, and this is important, so you do need to understand that when they went into captivity in Babylon, the Bible says that they hung their harps, they hung their five string liars or their harps on trees and didn't play them. Okay. I can't remember. I think, I can't give you the quote on that. All right. But they hung on trees and didn't play them. Which is a picture of when you're playing, playing them, it's worship, okay. It's joyful, it's deliverance. Okay. And when they were in bondage, they did not play them. Okay? And Scripture tells us that. Just a little insight into it, he says, I heard the sound of harpists playing their harp. They sang as it were a new song before the throne. Okay. All right. So these 144,000 are singing a new song before the throne. Now, I want you to hear me because this is important. It is important. Although I've instructed our worship team and we've done this since even before Terry was born, you don't need to sing a new song, more than one new song every week. It's okay to sing a new song. Just sing one. You know why we do that? Because you don't want most of the service to be where people don't know the song. You know what I'm saying? So you introduce a song, and there's places to introduce them and places not to, and we do that really well. But new songs are important, okay, because new songs indicate a new. A person who is new to the revelation of God, revealing or worshiping God from their perspective in their unique way from where they're at, okay? So you say, well, what does the new song stand for? Well, new stone stand for? Not new salvation, not new sanctification, not any of that. But it stands for a new experience which is unique from new people worshiping God. All right? Now, I want you to hear me today. I want you to hear me today. I love the hymns. Love them. I know them all, all right? Even the obscure ones, okay? Because I went to church since I was, you know, Since I was. Okay? I went to church since I was. And I love all the. All the hymns, all right? But I want you to hear me today. I want you hear me today. If all you sings gonna be a little ugly. If all you sing in hymns and you never have a new song, then you're singing about what God did when you wasn't alive. Now, there's nothing wrong with looking back on in the past and worshiping God for the things he does. I mean, we do that all the time, right? But you gotta have some new songs, okay? And if there. And, and, and if you'll. And you will notice in places where there's a new work of God going on, there's usually a lot of new songs. You'll also notice in places where there's no new work of God going on, there's rarely any new songs. And if you don't think that's a spiritual thing, it is true. And I know I'm talking to an older audience tonight, okay? But I'm going to tell you that it is necessary that there be new songs. It is a spiritual principle that must take place. Yes, sir. Psalm 137, okay? About the harvest on the tree, all right. Psalm 137, about the harps placed on the tree in Babylon, all right? I'm telling you that because we need to sing new songs all the time, okay? They don't have to be songs that nobody likes, okay? All right? In fact, you know, one of the best ways. And you say, pastor, well, how do you know whether this song is from God or not? I'll tell you why. Tell you how you know, okay? It's the coolest way. It's in fact, in all the ways that modern people try to figure out who likes what and how it works. I'm going to tell you how it works, okay? All right, here's. Here's a truth for you. Nobody listens regularly to Christian music except for Christians. Did y' all know that? Okay? Now, Christians will listen to AC dc, okay? I had to listen to it working out my whole college career. We had one one tape down in the bottom of Jadwin Jim, four stories down. There was no radio signals that made it that far down. And it was AC DC Back in Black. And there are five songs on the front, five songs on the back, all right? And I know those words by heart because I listen to them for an hour, hour and a half a day every day, okay? So I know AC DC Back in Black. But I'm going to tell you that. That if I had put in Hillsong or Third Day, a lot of the guys working out would have not liked that at all. You know why? Because they weren't Christians. All right? So when Christians listen to. Listen to songs, okay? And a song touches their heart and means a lot to them, you know what happens? It becomes popular, and people want to listen to that song, okay? Now I want you to tell. I want you to hear me. That's intensely a spiritual thing. Are you following me? There's a reason why we keep seeking amazing grace and how great thou art and stuff like that. Why? Because those songs touched hearts. They were their time. Timeless songs. Well, songs that touch hearts, new songs that touch hearts today are timeless songs. You don't have to go look for obscure stuff. You can just look right there. Let's say, okay, I'm gonna go to 2018. You know, the Christian top 25 songs, okay? If I look down that list, Christian top 25 songs to 2018, and I know half of those songs, and I know them by heart. You know what? I know they were. They. They were spirit filled. God used them. That's how I know. Okay? All right, Now, I already told you, I know most of the hymns that nobody knows. I've sung those before, okay? And while I was singing as a child, I was singing them saying, we've never sung this before, and it's really not a good song. Okay? Why are we singing this? Okay? And usually I only sung them like, four or five times. But I've sung them and I know them. I don't think we ought to sing those songs. Okay. If we're gonna reach back to the past, we need to reach back to the past where God was moving in a song. Right? Just making. Making. I'm just explaining it. Okay. And it's good to understand why we do what we do. It is because we want the music to be a new song that is empowered by the Holy Spirit, and the instructions are clear from the Holy Spirit. Okay, and how do I know that? Well, it moves in the hearts of people. Makes sense. And it's theologically correct, but that's another issue. Okay. All right. And by the way, Christians will figure out if a song's not theologically correct, and they'll quit singing it. Did y' all know that? Yeah. You know why? Because the Holy Spirit says that ain't right. Or if you're not from south, that is not right. Okay. All right. So I heard a sound of a harvest playing hearts. They sang as it were, a new song. And a new song represents a new experience from God. Okay? An experience that's unique to them, that glorifies God uniquely from them. Now, that explains what we're about to read. It says they sang a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures and the elders, and no one could learn the song except the 144,000. And so, see, they're musically illiterate in heaven. Is that what that means? No, that's not what that means. Okay. They couldn't learn the song. They were out there. What key is it in? I don't know what key. What are we talking about? Keys? All right. You're singing that too high. What do you mean, too high? Am I too loud? I don't know what that means. That's not what that is. Okay, all right. That's me not knowing what music is. Are you following me? The reason they couldn't sing the song is because the song didn't come from their experience. It came from the people that were singing the songs. Experience makes sense. Now, that leads us all the way back to the original statement I made. Some songs are going to be sung in heaven, but at some point in time, need to be quit. Quits song on the earth. And I tell you why. Because nobody understands the experience that song is talking about, because it's past them. It's gone. It doesn't exist. Do we sing any songs from 500 A.D. do we? No. 700, 900, 1200, 1500. They might sing some in England. 1500. 1800. Yeah, yeah. Okay. 1900, 2000s. Sure. 1500. That's how. When they cross the ocean by them. By their ships with sails on them. Right. It doesn't. Why don't we sing those songs? Were those songs from about God? From a group of people who worship God? Sure. Do they mention. Do they sing? Do. Do they tell a story that we can't relate to? Yeah, a story we can't sing. I hate to hurt your feelings, but there's going to come a day down the road where How Great Thou art. Even though it's a great song, I love the song. It's. It's in a. It's in already in a language that's a little archaic to the day. Am I right? In a hundred years, it's going to be as if it's not our language and so it won't be understandable. Are you following me? And I. And. And when I say that, I want you to look at how great thou art, okay? And look at the verses that it is and say, if I were my great, great grandchild, would this. Would this verse make sense to them? And the likelihood is no. And some of you don't even really know what all of it means anyway. If you're honest with yourself when you read it, you go, what. What is that talking about? Right? And if you know, it's likely because you've been in church your whole life. Is that ugly for me to say? No, but it's a good understanding of why we do. Because music can become such an issue. Are you following me? Such an issue and understanding that. Okay, I love this old song. It speaks to me because it spoke to me when I was 10 or 12 is fine and good and important. But don't get upset when the 15 year old has no clue what that song means and doesn't like it. Okay? If I sang you a song in old English, you would not even understand what I was saying. You do know that, right? If you, all of you who have gray hair, you had to read Beowulf. Okay? All right. You know what I'm talking about. Beowulf was a waste of time. Am I right? Because you have no idea what that thing said, okay? Why they made us read it. I have no idea. It's wrong, really. And I think it's torture. I think it was illegal, really. All right? He said, and no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who. Who were redeemed from the earth. All right? No one understood their experience. Why did no one understand their experience? Because their experience is super unique. They're the only ones who are preaching the gospel during the tribulation. Nobody else understands what that is like. So the song they sing, you can't understand. And that'll lead you to understanding of other things. Am I right? So you got to know your audience, you got to know who you're speaking to, you got to know who you're dealing with. Okay. So if you show up to the nursing home to sing songs, probably should hold off on Hillsong a little bit. Are you following me? You might get a little third day. It's been around 40 years, you. I mean, if you went casting crowns 40 years, 30 year, you might get a few. Are you following me? You probably all stick with the hymns. I do too. I love casting crowns, but that's in my heyday. Makes sense. And they're probably some older people in the nursing home who like casting crowns. Are you with me? Not sure that they know the other ones. And so what do you. What should you sing there? What they know. Right. Makes sense. Right. By the way, the verses on Old Rugged Cross, I want you to read them too. Okay. I. I understand them. But ask yourself if you're 10 year old grandchild would understand it handles Messiah. Yeah. Not even close. All right. As you go today, I pray that.

The Lord will bless you and keep you, that he'll make his face to shine upon you and that he will give you hope and peace today in Jesus name.
