This is Chad Harrison, and you're listening to Hope Applying God's word to your daily life.
Hi, this is Chad Harrison and I am the teaching pastor of Lake Community Church and have been serving as a pastor for 25 years.
I'm also a practicing attorney. This podcast is designed to help you study God's word and find God's will for your life.
I pray in the name of Jesus right now that God would open up.
His word to you and allow you.
To see him and to know him and to know his will, that you might glorify him and that you might walk in faith and power each and every day, especially today,
in Jesus name.
Now that brings us to an understanding that is a little bit important,
okay?
For us men,
and this is hard to get men,
Human beings can only properly respond to God in His grace.
If men reject his grace,
then all that's left is judgment and they will never properly respond to his judgment.
Okay?
Human.
And his wrath,
that is just going to reveal their rejection of his grace.
There's no way to get around that.
Yeah, they believe that He's God.
That's right. That's right. Well, listen, listen.
I dealt with a young man today. I didn't deal with him. I just listened to him while he was on the stand.
But that, you know, didn't believe in God. Just didn't believe in God.
All right?
But he's never been in a position where he was facing his mortality.
I want you to hear me.
Human beings intrinsically know that God exists because he is. He is. He has written his nature on them,
okay?
He's written his nature on their hearts, all right?
And no matter what theories they may teach you that those theories, by the way, are quickly at. The more knowledge we have, the more quickly those theories fall apart. Okay?
But. But even knowing that,
clearly there has to be a.
A,
A completely.
A perfectly good, perfectly powerful, powerful, perfectly knowledgeable,
perfectly.
Omnipresent being that made everything.
Okay.
And I say that because otherwise,
if.
If the being that made things was not all those things, then the universe would not operate so well as it does.
Okay?
All right? That's why when God said.
Made this on the first day, and then he said, and it was good, which means it had intrinsic.
That was perfect,
Okay?
I.
God, when he made all those things, he made them. He made them perfectly because he is.
He is a perfect being.
Are you following me?
I. And there's certain aspects that people, in their own mind,
even if they say there is no God, they can't get past It.
Something can't come from nothing,
okay?
So there.
That's just an obvious truth,
okay?
We.
We came from something,
all right?
So now we've got to define what that something is. Something made these things, something created these things, something initiated these things.
We have to come to the. Come to a conclusion of who that is,
all right?
And we know that it wasn't us.
Now, we love to worship us,
right?
But at the fundamental core of every human being, they realize that the worship of themselves is vacuous and it's painful, and it ultimately leads to nothing.
It leads to emptiness,
okay?
And so.
So you're exactly right.
They blasphemed God because they know it's from Him.
And I want you to hear me.
They know that it's his.
Hear this because it's important.
They know it's his judgment because they have rejected his grace.
They know it's his judgment because they have rejected his grace,
okay?
And that is critical for you to get.
God is not in the business of judgment where you're concerned. He's in the business of grace.
That being said,
because you are consequential and because what your life is is consequential, if you choose not his grace,
then the consequence is going to be something that falls under his judgment.
All right?
You matter.
So what you do and who you are matter.
And if you don't choose God's grace that matters,
the. The worst thing for people, for human beings,
is to feel like that they don't matter at all.
And one of the quickest ways you can get to that is,
is to not believe that there's something that made you,
Because then you're just the product of some mindless process.
Well, we know that that's not the case,
right?
We know that that's not the case.
And we know intrinsically that that's not the case, that there was a mind,
there was a character, there was a person thing that made it.
Best illustration I ever heard was by John.
You know, I'm terrible with names.
John, can you look him up, baby?
Lennox.
Probably the best person I've ever really listened to to explain everything and tight to scripture,
but John Lennox, when he's dealing with an atheist professor,
he says, you believe that the universe was created by a mindless process,
which is what the Big Bang is, okay? It's a mindless process.
And I'm not even saying that God didn't use a Big Bang to make everything.
But remember, God's the initiator of the process,
okay?
You can argue that all you want to, that's fine.
But who made the bang?
Are you following me? I.
I. And when you're thinking about that, that's important.
I.
John Lennox says you believe that the universe was made by a mindless process,
and you trust it.
And he uses that phrase I love. And he's. He's. He's. He's.
He's Irish. So he says, and you trust it.
And.
And they go, yeah. He said, well, if I told you to go work on a comp,
told you that it was made by a mindless process, would you trust it?
No.
No. How many of y' all would really trust anything that came from a mindless process?
None of you would. Right?
None of you would. But we know the universe tends toward chaos,
okay?
And I want you to hear me.
There's an orderliness to the way our universe exists,
okay?
And the only way there's an orderliness because the universe is in chaos,
by the way. That's the second law of thermodynamics, that everything tends toward chaos.
Okay? All right,
Then who made the orderliness?
Because order does not come from chaos.
It cannot.
Who made the orderliness of this earth? Who made the orderliness of the intrinsic value that you have?
When there's a God who made you,
then his making of you gives you value.
When I reject as these men who he is judging them by the worship of other things other than God, when they reject him,
they reject. Listen, they reject not only God,
but they reject all value that they have because he is the source of their value.
He's the one that makes them valuable.
If I'm the result of some mindless process,
then I have no value.
Other than the value I can give myself.
And we find a book in the Bible that talks about that by a person who, you know, attained all the money, all the knowledge, all the. All the corner things of this world.
His name was Solomon. And he said all the things that he attained to in the world were what?
Meaningless?
The word he used, and I want you to hear me.
The word he used was meaningless.
He didn't use.
He didn't go. Everything's.
He didn't do that.
He used a phrase that has great meaning to it.
He says everything that's not from God has no meaning at all because he is the definer of all meaning,
and it's meaningless.
And if I reject that from God,
then all I have in is is an expectation of his judgment.
All there is is the expectation of his judgment.
And so when God begins to scorch them because they have rejected his grace.
All there is is to blaspheme him and his character and nature and say that he is not. He does not, he will not.
Put whatever you want to after that.
He does not, he is not, he will not.
All those things, all the things you can say negatively about God,
and they blaspheme in him and they reject Him.
Be careful when you do that.
Be careful. And that's why we get to the place where they call it the unpardonable sin.
Okay, now I want you to hear me.
I want you to hear me.
The unpardonable sin. Some of y' all think that means that you go to hell,
but that's not what that means. What that means is, is that I suffer the consequence of the sin.
And what is the unpardonable sin?
To what blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Well, there's a word there that we've been talking about.
What's that word?
Blaspheme. Which means I attribute aspects of the character of the Holy Spirit that are not the Holy Spirit, and I reject him under those characters.
Well, if you think about it,
how am I pardoned?
I'm pardoned by the blood of the Lamb and the grace that is made known to me by the Holy Spirit.
So if I reject the Holy Spirit in any way and then attribute his work to something else that's not him,
then whatever I am doing in that area,
the Bible says will not be forgiven on earth,
nor in heaven. Which means I will bind that up and not have it in heaven.
Jesus, if you'll remember, he says, that which you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. That which you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.
All right. What is. What is available to me? All the promises of God.
All the grace of God. If I take an aspect of his grace that is revealed to me by His Holy Spirit.
Are you following me?
If I take an aspect of his grace that's revealed to me by His Holy Spirit and I reject it.
And then move to the next step and treat it as if it's not from God,
then I bind that promise.
I bind that inheritance up here on earth,
and I bind it up there in heaven so I do not get the benefit of that inheritance.
Now you're going. Well, you mean that there are going to be things in heaven where we're not. We. We're not all going to be the same?
No.
No, we're not going to all be the same.
I'll tell you why.
The mother. Mother of James and John came up to Jesus and said,
lord, when you get to your glory, can one of my sons sit on your right hand and another sit on your left hand? Jesus said, oh, everybody's the same in heaven.
You ain't got to worry about that.
Isn't that what he said?
No, he said, that's not for me to give.
Those things have already been what established.
They've been determined,
which means there's going to be. Somebody sits at his right hand. Somebody sits at his left hand.
The Bible says that some will enter the kingdom of heaven as by fire,
which means they just barely in.
Yes,
yes.
Somebody has a medical condition and they're giving some medicine by a doctor, but it was actually a miraculous healing by God that healed them. If you attribute that miraculous healing that God did to the medicine.
Only.
Only if you know.
Only if you know. Remember,
all the time people get into,
look, I'm going to be real with you,
okay? Straight up.
When God gets me in front of him in heaven,
I get the harshest treatment.
Well, because I'm teaching the word. I'm the pastor of the church. I've been given all these gifts. I've been being given all these knowledge, all this understanding. I'm. I'm held to a higher standard.
I. Now,
that's right. And so,
so God is going to reward me and judge me based off of his revelation to me.
Okay,
he's going to judge you based off of his revelation to you.
All right, Remember, God is in the business of revealing himself and having a relationship with you, okay? Yes, ma'. Am. Miss Amy.
So ponder what Lisa asked. But do you feel that. But God allowed somebody to create that medication, to prescribe that medication to help that?
Sure, sure, I get that.
But sometimes the medication really does help. That's true. I agree 100% with. Because I agree with that a lot. I ponder that.
That's. That's. And look, that's a good question.
And remember,
that's one of those questions that we like to generalize. But I can't generalize it because it's got to be personal.
Okay? The. The revelation of the Holy Spirit is to you.
Okay. All right, now listen,
listen. If I'm riding down the road,
and I always pay perfect attention to the road when I'm driving speed bumps. Did you just look up at me from the side like, like I was lying?
I.
She was waiting. She. Well, if you, if you were waiting for the lighting boat, you should have moved over. All right,
get out of the way. All right, now now listen. Now listen.
If I'm riding down the road and. And all of a sudden, I kind of.
Through absolutely no fault of my own, obviously, all right, that I kind of get into another lane,
okay?
Take for instance, back when I was a teenager and I was going to see this really pretty girl in Montgomery after I moved up here, okay? I.
And.
And I was going across the Saugahatchee Bridge back when it barely was wide enough for two cars to cross.
And as I'm going across the Saugahatchee Bridge, there's a bus coming, a school bus coming,
and the school bus. And back then, they hadn't made those straightaways. You came onto that bridge, like in a big S curve onto the bridge, both ways,
okay? If y' all don't remember that, I can't fix it for you. It wasn't near as nice as it is now, okay?
And so when I get about halfway across that bridge, that bus hits the bridge and it gets all the way in my lane.
So I am hammering on the brakes,
trying to give that brush all the chance I can to get over in their lane and miss me,
all right?
Now,
that bus, I'm talking about, like, inches from my front bumper, got in the lane and got past me.
All right?
Now,
if God clearly revealed to me that there was an angel standing there who pushed the bus away and then I went to somebody and said,
it's just one of them lucky things that happened to me, that would be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit,
right?
If he clearly revealed to me,
me personally, that an angel was there and kept that bus from hitting me and then I attributed it to something else,
would I not be blaspheming the revealed will of God or plan of God in that situation?
Okay? Would I get the reward of glorifying him for the mighty work he done in that situation when I get to heaven?
No.
No.
Because I have rejected the revealed will of God. And by the way, the only way you ever know any of the will of God,
the only way you know any of it is by his divine revealed will through His Holy Spirit.
Remember,
the Holy Spirit is.
Is the way you hear or listen to God.
What you hear and listen to is his voice, which is Jesus.
It is the Word,
okay?
And if God has shown you something and then you reject what God has shown you and say it's something else,
well, then I've rejected that and I've bound that up and I don't get to have it.
Does that make sense?
All right, that's why? Jesus said,
because it seems strange. You can blaspheme me, you can blaspheme my Father,
but if you blaspheme the Holy Spirit,
it'll neither be forgiven in this lot,
in this kingdom,
in this life, or in the life to come, or in the kingdom to come.
What he's saying is, is that's the only way for you to know me.
So down the road, if you start rejecting what God's clearly revealed to you,
well, then what do you have left?
You don't have anything left. How am I going to talk to you if you're rejecting that which is the mechanism by which you hear me?
So what he was telling those men was, listen, you can talk bad about me all you want to. You can reject me right now. And some of them had, and some of them unrejected him after.
After the cross,
there's a chance the Apostle Paul was standing there.
We know that some of the Sanhedrin became Christians after.
After the crucifixion.
They rejected Jesus.
They. Then they had Jesus revealed for who he was, and then they received Jesus.
He's telling them, if you get revelation for me and you reject it,
then what hope is there?
How. How can I. How, how am I going to talk to you?
How am I going to reveal myself to you? How you going to know?
That makes sense, doesn't it?
That makes really good sense. All right,
so do I know that there was an angel that pushed that bus over to the other side of the thing? No, God hadn't just straight out told me. I got a good feeling about it,
you know,
but I don't know it.
Is that in the realm of possibility, one of the possibilities? Well, yeah, in fact, probably it's high probability.
It's not probably not a possibility. It's more like a probability.
But I don't know that for sure. So I'm not just going to sit here and tell you that that's what that was, because I don't know it.
But there are other things that I clearly know were from God or God did, and I saw him do it. And I must tell you, when I see him do it, I must give him the glory for it.
And that's the problem with these people who are being scorched by the sun.
They rejected his grace,
his revealed will. They have rejected his revealed will.
And now all that's left is an expectation of his judgment.
And their natural reaction to his judgment is to blaspheme him,
because that's what got them where they are right now.
They rejected his will.
As you go today, I pray that.
The Lord will bless you and keep you, that he'll make his face to shine upon you and that he will give you hope and peace today in Jesus na
