Word of God, please speak to the hearers of your voice today in the name of Jesus. Amen. He says, do not lay hands on anyone hastily nor share in other people's sin. Keep yourself po pure. All right? Now what is he talking about there? What he's talking about there is setting people aside for ministry. Don't do it too hastily. That's the lesson I gotta learn. I gotta get better at that, okay? As I read through scripture always, you can't just lay hands on them immediately, okay? You got to let them grow into what they're going to be and let God do his work first. All right? What he's saying is, is if you do that, you're kind of, you're kind of responsible for their mess ups. So don't be, don't do that, all right? Don't do it. Be slow to, to. To set somebody aside with the laying on of hands, okay? All right? Oh, and by the way, until you're spiritually ready, you don't need to be praying over folks and laying hands on them either, okay? Because you are dealing with an issue when you put your hand on them. Okay? All right? And there's spiritual battles that take place when those things are going on, all right? And you're taking the weight of that battle on, on yourself, all right? Nothing wrong with it. Bible says we're all to do it, but not everybody ought to be doing it. Okay? Be careful about that. Be careful about that. He says. He says, oh, we are messing up. This is just messing up all kinds of chat ologies and, and Larry Ologies and Bill ologies. This is just tearing it all to Pieces, okay? And Leo ologies. All right. Just because Leo say, all right, he says, no longer only drink. No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. That's not grape juice, by the way. Just letting you know, okay? That's not grape juice. The word means fermented wine, okay? He says, take a little wine for your stomach. It's good for you, okay? And by the way, we've proven that medically, it's good to have a little wine, okay? I don't like wine. Beer. I like beer, but that's not as good for you, okay? But wine is actually a glass of wine. A little bit of wine every night is good for you. It's health, healthy wise. It's just good for you. Paul's telling him, don't drink only water, Rod. Don't be drinking just only water, okay? You got to drink a little wine for your stomach. That's what he's saying. All right? I know that hurts a lot of people's feelings, but by the way, this whole idea of not drinking any alcohol in the church is so specific to a region of one country in the world as to be here. When I say that, folks go, I don't know if I can drink any wine. But I'm just telling you all over the world, that's not an issue in the church. Y' all do know that, right? You go anywhere else outside, if you go any farther north than Kentucky, any farther west than Texas, and any farther east than the Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of America, okay? If you. If you go anywhere outside of those boundaries. Christians drink wine all the time. Don't tell them that, but they do, okay? Now, Bible says, do not be drunk with wine, but be filled with the Holy Spirit. He didn't say drink a bottle. He said, drink a little wine for your stomach, okay? If you're drinking a bottle a night, back off, all right? That's bad for you, okay? But. And by the way, if you have a problem with alcohol, people do, okay? If you got a problem with alcohol, don't drink it at all. All right? Look, everything in moderation. And if it's a problem for you, then no moderation. I mean, pecan pies are a problem for me when. When we're going home from. For Christmas and there's a. There's a red velvet cake. I don't take the whole cake. You know why? Because I'll eat the whole cake. I just take enough for a couple of slices for the next couple of days, as Jesus has blessed me with. Okay? But if I have the whole cake, you got to get that eaten in four or five days. That means I got to eat four or five slices a day. That's not good. It's not moderation. And I make that as a joke because it's important. It kind of is. The absurdity. The absurdity that illustrates the fact there are people in this room who cannot drink alcohol. Don't drink it. There are people in this room who need to drink a little alcohol, who don't drink it. There's some people in this room who need to drink a little wine or a little something with alcohol in it for. For a health reason. It's okay. You can do it. You're not going to hell, all right? And if you see each other in the liquor store, you can speak to each other, all right? He says. He says some men's sins are clearly evident. This is a great principle here, okay? This is a great principle here because we. This is a new Christian problem. Why do. Why do heathens get blessed? Okay. All right? And for Timothy, when you're a young pastor, Lord, why are you letting so and so do this? And I'm over here laboring away and I ain't getting nothing. I mean, y' all have heard that, right? Well, he's going to deal with it with Timothy, and he's just going to let him know. Some men's sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgment, meaning eventually God's going to deal with it, okay? But those. But those of some follow later, meaning some people you don't know, and then it just catches up with them, okay? Your sin, it does. It catches up with them. All right? Now, he says. He says likewise, the good works of some are clearly evident. And those who are otherwise cannot be hidden. Which means eventually God's going to bring out your good. You need to hear that, all right? Your perception of how somebody is or isn't getting away with, with it. And whether or not you are or not being blessed because of your good works, God is going to be righteous and he's going to deal with it rightly with you. And you need to not worry about. Quit being Peter, asking about John behind you, okay? That's the story where Jesus is having a conversation with Peter. And Peter finally sitting there going, you are being hard on me. You know. You know, told me that Satan's going to sift me. And then he sifted me. And now we walking on this beach and you telling me to love and take care of the sheep. What about John back there? You know, what about that kid back there? Were you going to make him do anything? And Jesus said, if he stays till I come back, what's it to you? And that's what Peter. That's what Paul's saying to Timothy here. He's saying. He's saying, listen up, listen up. Don't get all focused on what God's doing for somebody else and whether or not somebody else is going to face the consequences of what's going on in their life. He says, I'm handling it. It's going to be clearly evident. I'm going to get it figured out, okay? And look, our sin, our sin does find us out. You know that. And some of it's out there in public. Some of it just eats you up alive on the inside. And so many times people say, so many times people say, well, you know, that person, that person is, you know, he's rich and lives in Hollywood. I mean, how many of them are drug overdoses and, and all that mess? Don't, don't think that. That's not how that works. And Paul's telling Timothy that. What time is it? 7:10. All right, if y' all need to use the bathroom, go do it. But I'm going to finish because I got a chapter to do. So y' all just, y' all feel free to go grab you something, but I'm going to keep moving. How's that sound to y'? All? All right? He says, let as many bond servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor so that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed. All right, now this is important. Okay? First of all, let's deal with this because the society is going to tell you that the Bible is endorsing slavery. Okay? This is not. This is not. This is not 16th, 17th and 18th century slavery. It's not. It's not the slavery that we're dealing with. This is bond servitude. Okay? By the way, I dare say that most of the people in this room are bond servants. Okay? All right, how many of y' all have owe the credit card company money at the end of the month? Raise your hand, bond servant. All right, how many of y' all owe the mortgage company for your house? Bond servant. By the way, what you signed is a bond. Okay? All right, how many y'. All, how many of y' all owe money on your cars? Bond servant. All right, you're a bond servant. Which means you owe someone a debt and you're gonna have to work to pay the debt off. Now, in a modern capitalist society, the way that works is you take a and you earn money and then you pay off your servitude. In a non capitalist society, okay, the way that worked was you would go to a person and say, listen, I need money to pay off all this stuff and handle this problem. I'm going to be a bond servant to you and you're going to pay off all this for me and then I'm going to work for you for five years and you're going to feed me and I'm going to live with you and, and I'm going to serve your household and at the end of the five years, I'm going to be free from it because I've worked for you. That was what bond servitude was. Okay? Now the slave trade, I'm going to get into this because it does need to be heard. Okay? The slave trade, which began in Africa and the Muslim nations. Okay? All right. Was a form of slavery that was also common for thousands of years. And it was a slavery where you were owned by someone. Okay? And that form of slavery, as far as the trade is concerned, was ended by somebody which was the British Empire. Okay? The British Empire banned slavery and banned slave ships. And when they were the masters of the seas in the 17th and 18th century, they banned it and they began to sink slave ships. Okay? And so slavery became a very localized type thing. In fact, the word slave comes from the Slavic people who the Ottoman Empire captured and sold into slavery. Okay. And the Ottoman Empire was the largest Muslim empire in the history of the world. All right? So you need to understand that there's a difference between the two types of slavery that are being mentioned here. What does he say? Well, if you've entered into an agreement with someone that they're going to pay you, pay off these things for you, and then you're going to serve them for a certain number of years and they're going to take care of your needs and you're going to work for them as a servant in their household for a certain number of years. You entered into that agreement was not forced upon you. It's a certain time period. If you do that, you need to treat the person that's doing that for you well. Why? Because they've done you a favor. They didn't have to pay off your debts, they didn't have to handle your problems for you. And that's what he's saying here, let as many bond servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor. What is he saying? Honor the person who helped you. All right? So that the name of God and his doctrine may not be blasphemed, meaning, quit acting like that. Now, I heard. I heard someone tried to say that, you know, the Bible didn't endorse maleness and femaleness because the Bible says in Christ there's neither male nor female, neither slave nor free, neither Gentile nor Jew. Okay? That's not what that's saying, that God's. There's no such thing as that. Are you following me? That's not what he's saying. What he's saying is when we're in Christ and we're believers, even if we have the multitude of different relationships that God that. That are out there, you need to treat each other as a believer, okay? And give them the proper honor that they're due you. With me, if you have another Christian who's helped you with something, you ought to honor them for that. Somebody's discipled you. You ought to honor them for that. Somebody stepped in and helped you in a situation, provided for you, you ought to honor them for that. All right, and what does he mean? Should you go around talking about how great they are? No, you should treat them with honor in your heart. And you ought to act like they're. That what they've done is value to you. That's what Paul's saying here. And those who have believing masters, let them not despise them because they're brethren, but rather serve them because those who are benefited are believers and beloved. Teach and exhort these things. That's a great. That's a great teaching. What he's saying is be good to your boss, even if your boss ain't a believer right now, I'm not saying be good to Chase Manhattan, that's a company. But be good to. But pay them. Pay them if you owe them, pay them if you don't, you're going to be in court in front of me, all right? Because they going to sue you. He says if anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine which accords. Which accords, which falls in line with godliness. He is. So what he's saying is if you don't understand these things, you're proud. You don't know what you're talking about. You know nothing. You're obsessed with disputes and arguments over words. That's that proof texting thing we were talking about. Okay, well, the Bible says this, right? It does, and it's right. But your interpretation is this. And it's not in line with these other three passages. So that passage and these three passages, the way you think they mean, what they think, what you think they mean ain't what they mean. Because if your interpretation of this passage is out of line with that passage, then that passage and that passage aren't wrong. You're wrong. Which means you got to wrestle with God. And when you come across things in the Bible you don't like, you got to deal with it. Why? Because the reason you don't like it is because you're lost and you're sinful and God needs to bring you right in line with him. And so when you read something in Scripture, you got to figure out, you got to figure most time the reason you don't like it is because you ain't doing right. And he says, if you, if you get into, if you, if you get into saying, I'm not going to do what, what these teachings are, I'm not going to follow the teachings of this Bible, pick what I like and don't like. He says you're proud you know nothing, and you're obsessed with disputes and arguments over words. By the way, if you're arguing about. I don't get in arguments with folks about this. I'm not go. Look, if you, if we're going to get in an arguing match about it, I ain't getting into it with you because you're ignorant. That's what he says. And proud you know nothing. That's ignorance. You're proud you know nothing and you're obsessed with a dispute, an argument over a word. Not the word, a word. All this has got to go together. I know this hard teaching, okay? Sometimes you feel like I'm being. But you know, that's the way I deal with it. Somebody gonna listen, I'll explain it to you, and I'll go over it with you. But if you want to take a, if you want to take a line of thought about a passage of Scripture and say, this is what this passage means, and other parts of the Bible clearly say directly opposite of what you think it means, you are ignorant and proud and you don't know what you're talking about, And I will treat you as such. And the older I get, the worse I am about this. Okay? I used to get in arguments with folks all the time. Used to, all the time. I figured out it don't help them and it don't help me. So I'm not arguing with you. I'll get. I'll tell you what the Bible teaches generally. I'll give you the passages where you can understand that what you think the word saying is not what it's saying. And if you don't want to wrestle with that, then too bad. Some things are not hills to die on. They're not. And oftentimes you'll get. People get into all kinds of arguments. One of the things that just. It doesn't gripe me at all because it's not really a problem for me, but there's groups of people who get in a big fight. I'm going to give you one of the fights, okay? That. That's just ridiculous. Okay, one of the fights over, and I'll have people ask me this. Well, whose name do you baptize in? Okay, well, Paul said, baptize in the name of Jesus. And I believe that. Now, they ain't said anything wrong, but Jesus said Matthew. Now, I'm going to tell you. I'm. We talking about the Jesus duck guy. Y' all know who he is? Matthew 28:18 20. He says. He says this. Go. He says, all authority in heaven on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I've commanded you. Now, by the way, all three. All. All three of those, four of those are names which speak to the character of God. So if you want to be baptized in the name of Jesus, I'll baptize you in the name of Jesus. You want to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Spirit, that'll be fine, too. By the way, if you want to be baptized in the name of Jesus, let's just get it right, because that's not his name. His name is Yahshua. Okay? All right, so if we don't do it right, let's baptize you in the name of Yahshua. I don't want to be baptized that name. That's not the name he is. Well, that is his name. Okay, all right. But by the way, if you want to get baptized in the name of Adonai, I'll do that, too. Okay. What about Jehovah? I'm in for that. All right, let's just start going through the names. You name any name of God, I'll baptize you in that name. But I ain't getting a fight with you about whether or not you supposed to baptize in the name of Jesus or the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Because Jesus said, do it in name the Father, Son Holy Spirit, Peter said, do it in the name of Jesus. And they both the same. And that's the end of it. I ain't arguing with you. I ain't going. We're not going to get into it because what are you arguing over? Words. All right? You arguing over words, but not the Word. All right? And it's been going on since I was a young pastor. Redneck Christianity, okay? You pick one verse that you like and that's your verse. And your whole theology is based off of that one verse. You don't know the word. You don't care to know the Word. All you want to do is fight about this one issue. I ain't fighting about. Distracts from God discipling his people. And I used to get mad about it. Now I don't give the door an opening for it. Useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds. Notice. Let me just read it. He's proud. He's ignorant, knowing nothing. He's obsessed with disputes and arguments over words from which some which come envy, strife, reveling evil suspicion. Evil suspicion. What do they do? They start ascribing evil suspicion to someone who has been discipling them for years. What? All right. Useless wrangling of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth. This is hardcore stuff. Who suppose that godliness is a means of gain, he says from such withdraw yourself. That means have nothing to do with them. Huh? I thought we supposed to love everybody. Yeah, but you can love them from afar. He said withdraw yourselves. That's why I don't get in with it. And by the way, I ain't got to. I ain't got to. I ain't going to. That's the way I handle it. If you have a problem with scripture, I will work with you. But the minute you start, I'm gonna hang on this one thing and my view of it's law. I'm out. I'm out. Ain't gonna have nothing to do with you. Okay, I let God handle you because I'm not going to let me get my flesh over it. Now, godliness with contentment is great gain. What is he saying? Do the things that cause you to be content. Do the things that cause you to trust Jesus. If you don't, don't get all upset about stuff. Don't be all offended all the time. I will say this because it is important. If you are like that and anybody who's listening in the future, if you are like that and you decide you're going to go to war against God's people or somebody that's called by God over words like this. Be careful. Be very careful. It's happened to me a couple of times, usually you fixing to get eat alive. Okay. Be very careful. As you go today. I pray that the Lord will bless you and keep you, that he'll make his face to shine upon you and that he will give you hope and peace today in Jesus name.
